The plans from TFL and Hackney Council revealed a protected cycle lane on the A10 northbound and traffic-free public ‘pocket parks’ alongside a ‘continuous footway’ giving pedestrians and cyclists the respect and safety they need to travel.
Residents in E3 will have a safer commute in Stoke Newington
TFL and Hackney Council say that the plans “would remove a significant barrier to cycling in the area and provide new traffic-free public spaces to meet, play, relax and shop alongside a host of other improvements aimed at creating a more attractive and less traffic-dominated environment for people.”
They are planning on creating some continuous pavements in the High Street giving pedestrians priority in the area. The development of a segregated cycle lane with bus stop bypasses will also help cyclists commute in a much safer manner.
Pocket Parks creating some great space for quality leisure time
The plans have included three ‘pocket parks’ in the detail. These are designed to be completely traffic free areas with cycle parking available. They will provide a much more welcoming and encouraging environment for people to relax in. There is talk of community gardens, seating areas and entertainment. Features particularly designed to make the time spent in the town centre a more relaxing and less hectic experience.
Less Traffic Congestion makes visiting and living in Stoke Newington a better experience
Why have these proposals been put forward now? On previous consultations the TFL and Hackney Council have discovered that constant traffic congestion is a problem. Likewise, lack of pedestrian crossings have made life uncomfortable for people.
It is simply time to have a better high street experience. Bus and cycle use will be encouraged more. Traffic will be kept moving through the area. Journey times will decrease as a result of the plans. Pedestrians will have a safer and more enjoyable experience in the town centre. Furthermore, wider footpaths and new walkways will open up more of the town to visitors on foot. Undoubtedly providing opportunities to grow and flourish for the whole community.
